His Grace, The Most Reverend Spyridon, Bishop of Saint Petersburg (Russia)
His Grace, Bishop Spyridon, began his monastic life in Greece, where he spent 15 years in ascetic service at a cemetery chapel near Serres in northern Greece.
Following a period of illness after suffering a stroke, he returned to Russia two years prior to 2020 and resumed his spiritual labors at the place where his journey had first begun.
Originally, his parish was under the jurisdiction of the Synod of Archbishop Makarios of Athens, led locally by Metropolitan Philaret of Paris. However, due to doctrinal disagreements—particularly concerning innovations introduced under Archbishop Makarios—Father Spyridon and his parishes firmly rejected these errors and withdrew from communion with that synod.
In pursuit of preserving genuine Orthodoxy, Father Spyridon petitioned the Holy Synod of the Holy Orthodox Church of North America (HOCNA), and was formally received into the Church in September 2019.
Recognized for his unwavering commitment to true Orthodoxy, humility, and pastoral love, his faithful parishes petitioned for him to be consecrated a bishop. In response, the Holy Synod invited him to the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Boston, where he was unanimously elected and subsequently consecrated as Bishop of Saint Petersburg on October 4, 2020.
