Every year on 5th September, the Holy Orthodox Church of Uganda prayerfully commemorates the blessed memory of His Eminence the Late Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga, a remarkable spiritual leader whose life transformed Orthodoxy in Uganda and inspired countless faithful across Africa.

Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga was more than an Archbishop—he was a mentor, freedom fighter, visionary, and loving spiritual father. His unwavering faith, courage, humility, and commitment to the Gospel left a lasting legacy that continues to guide the Church today. Through his leadership, the Orthodox Church in Uganda grew spiritually, socially, and educationally, touching the lives of thousands through evangelism, schools, health services, and charitable works.

As we remember his earthly departure, we also celebrate a life dedicated entirely to Christ and to the service of God’s people. His teachings continue to encourage believers to remain steadfast in faith, love one another, and serve with compassion and integrity.
