His Eminence, Makarios, Met ropolitan of Toronto, whose name in the world was Konstantine Katre, was born in 1937, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After completing his degree in political sciences, He joined the monastery in 1987 as a novice monk and was tonsured by the Ever-memorable Archimandrite Panteleimon in the Holy Transfiguration Monastery, Brookline Massachussetts. In February of 1989 he was ordained a deacon and priest, and served his monastery. In 1990 he was elected bishop of Toronto by the Holy Synod in Greece, and on January 3 1991, he was consecrated bishop in Athens, Greece at the Convent of Saint John the Theologian in Petroupoli, the residence of His Beatitude Archbishop Auxentios, and was consecrated by Metropolitan Maximos of Kefalonia and (the then) Bishop Ephraim of Boston. In 1994 he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan by the Blessed Archbishop Auxentius, and in 2013 he was united to the Holy Synod under Archbishop Makarios. His Eminence speaks English, Greek, and Albanian.
