His Beatitude, Makarios, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, according to the world, Konstantinos Kavakidis, was born in the year 1962 in Katerini, Greece. Having completed his high school studies in Thessaloniki, he became a monk under the ever memorable Archimandrite, Iakovos Papadelis. He was ordained a deacon in 1981 and a priest in 1986 by the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Efthymios. In 1987, he graduated from the School of Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1990, after completing his Master’s in the department of Pastoral and Theological studies, he studied Law. In 1990 he founded the holy monastic brotherhood of St. James the Brother of the Lord and was elected its first Abbot. In 1996, he was ordained Bishop of Petra by His Eminence, Metropolitan Kallinikos of Lamia and His Eminence, Metropolitan Efthymios of Thessaloniki. On January 25, 2004, he was elected Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece by the Holy Synod.
